We bought our 21 foot 1986 Toyota Camper last March. Took her across the country to Palm Springs, California, stopping in Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and San Antonio Texas along the way. There were 4 of us. It was an amazing trip. Fast and a little tight, er cozy. There was no thought of it not working for a 3 month trip since we had such a great time in a quick 11 day trip. Those optimistic thoughts lasted for 23 days of our trip.
As I mentioned in the first post, my husbands sister Tina was traveling with us. She is a wonderful person, sweet, caring, unselfish and a terrific 2nd mom to Gabe. Unlike Joe and I, Tina is working remotely for her job. Which means she has a mobile office. With all of the fixings. She is very organized and doesn't ask for anything as she sits cramped at the dinette table with files and wires floating around her. Unfortunately the space isn't going to work for her. So we had to make a choice. Tina or the Toyota Camper. Did I mention the Toyota got 15 miles per gallon on our last trip????
We left Virginia on a Saturday and were sitting in Venice Florida Monday morning, inspecting our next purchase. A 39 foot 1996 American Dream Diesel Coach. After looking at other options on our trip south, we had made the decision that this was the Coach for us. Tina could spread out and do all of her work, each of us had our own separate sleeping area and we could actually take a shower in the bathroom with out having to straddle the toliet! It took us a week to make all the changes, repacking, registering and tinkering with some issues that came up. Issues that made Joe's Italian temper kick in and turn his head red. Issues that caused us to stay parked at a campground for longer than we wanted, making several trips to Home Depot, Lowes, Tractor Supply and Walmart. But knock on wood we were all set to start our journey. Exactly 1 month after we were supposed to.
On a bright and sunny Saturday morning we were once again headed north out of Florida. It took us 2 days, between storms, to put our feet in Alabama. We had made it to our first state on our to do list. A visit to the USS Alabama. Between my history buff husband and son, it was an exciting moment.
