Days go by……
I feel like I am doing a running journal of each of the places we have visited, but am neglecting our traveling days. There have been some days on this trip that we travel and don’t see a thing. Each town blends into the next with just open landscape. Not a soul insight. Gabe will be reading or playing cars, Joe of course is driving and Tina working, so I just sit and stare out the window. You lose track of time, just staring at the landscape. You would think it would be boring, but actually it is therapeutic. No computers, phones or tv. Just the beautiful landscape out the window. We will go hours without talking to each other or listening to the radio, something that would drive me crazy at home. But so at peace here on the road. Plus there's Kasey, he is entertaining to watch! We were surprised as he hates to go in the car, but he loves to be in the camper!
Then there are school days......we do math and Gabes journal everyday. It takes a total of maybe an hour, if he drags his feet or if there is something he wants to do than it can take under 30 minutes! Thats it. But the flailing around before hand is ridiculous most days. Can you blame him? Your on the road going different places in a camper! Do you really want to do school? AND its AUGUST! According to Gabe everyone else is out of school, so he wants to be! So I explain again he is Homeschooled and actually by now most of the public school children are back to school:)
There have been days that we have a very weak signal on our phones, so to try to call someone, you end up losing the call half way through. Very frustrating. Tina has had a few issues while on calls with clients. It is a learning process for all of us to be so disconnected at times. I can at least text most days, but unfortunately not everyone has a phone where they can text, like my momJ The State Park campgrounds we are staying at don’t offer WIFI. We do have it on our phone but only 1 gb. So we use it sparingly! In other post I will mention that since it seems to be an ongoing battle with me and Joe at times. I get bored and figure I need to do something with all my free time, so I do research on places to live, work for us or my email. I don’t go on FB unless we have WIFI and haven’t missed it so don’t want to use my minutes on it. Joe asks me to research places to stay, different routes we can take, diesel prices, etc…..all practical things. Which I love to do, but there are times when I just need to look up other things as well! So I am constantly checking my minutes to keep track of where I am. Funny how I used to take it all for granted!
Days when we have WIFI.......
Books? Well, with our limited space we didn’t pack any books. Which now with the bigger camper, we could of. Gabe can read anywhere from 1 to 3 books a day, depending on size and if he really liked it or not. While we were in Alpine Texas we stopped at the local library. Most libraries have used books for sale, so we figure we would check it out. Tina, Gabe and myself all purchased some books. But that was weeks ago. Gabe has a Kindle Fire that he purchased with his own money so he could download books for the ride. Unfortunately with some Prime you can only have 1 book a month for free, with book bub there are not books for free that interest him, with our St. Lucie County Library membership they have very few E-Books to chose from. So we keep looking at various places, yard sales if we pass any and can stop, flea markets, libraries, lending library at the campgrounds have been good spots also! After we are done reading our books we leave them at the next campground for someone else to read.
We are trying to stay off of the main highways as much as possible. By doing this we are able to see small town America. We have driven through so amazing small towns. Mom and Pop stores, farms, old garages, not so many strip malls or big box stores. We also find that some of the roads we travel are nice and smooth, but others make you want to strap your self in and hold on. Poor Tina gets car sick, so she has wrist bands on and takes her half a motion pill each morning, unless we aren’t traveling far than it is a ginger pill. Knock on wood she has been doing really well, shows how badly she wants to take this trip.
That and the camper is rather big so she can walk around, lay down or get something to eat. Compared to being cramped in a car.
Here are just some various scenery shots of different towns we have driven through along the way…….
Feels like you are on the road with us yet???
